Have you ever experience tingling down the arm, heaviness of the arm or other bizarre symptoms? You may have Thoracic outlet syndrome which is a group of disorders that may occur as a result of blood vessels or nerves in your shoulder area (the space between the collarbone and first rib are compressed). This compression can cause pain in the shoulders and numbness in your fingers. Symptoms of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome:
- Heaviness of arm
- Tingling in hand or arm
- Numbness in hand
- Impaired circulation to hand
- Neck pain
- Shoulder pain
Many common causes of thoracic outlet syndrome include physical trauma from a car crashes, repetitive injuries from job- or sports-related activities such as typing or using the mouse for excessive periods of time everyday, certain anatomical defects, and pregnancy. Sometimes the cause of thoracic outlet syndrome is unclear.
There are several treatments for thoracic outlet syndrome usually including medical massage therapy, chiropractic treatments, stretching and pain relief measures. Most people improve with these approaches.
At Pragle Chiropractic we utilize the AO Treatment with medical massage therapy to release the compression of the thoracic outlet. Please visit www.praglechiro.com to learn more or book an appointment.
